The final CMS Emergency Preparedness Rule for all Medicare and Medicaid providers became effective on November 15, 2016.  Home Health Care providers will be required to be in full compliance with all of the components of the regulation on November 15, 2017 which includes all hazard risk assessment, policies and procedures, a communication plan and extensive new testing and training requirements for staff

Recent clarification from CMS indicates that all Home Health Care providers must conduct two emergency preparedness exercises prior to November 2017, and that providers who have not done so will be found out of compliance with the CMS Requirements of Participation.

This training is structured to provide an overview of the regulations, assistance with tools and formats to draft your hazard risk assessment, policies and procedures, and communication plan.  In addition there will be information provided on the types of drills that CMS expects you to conduct and how you can meet those requirements for your organization.

Purpose: To educate home health care staff on the new CMS requirements for emergency preparedness.

Learning objectives:

  • Explain the new home health care requirements for emergency preparedness
  • Describe how to assess your agency/patient hazards risks
  • Discus how to develop a agency/patient emergency plan
  • Summarize how to properly conduct required staff training
