Current SITREP

As a quick reference, we have developed a Frequently Asked Questions page that you can FIND HERE

The State Emergency Operation Center has been activated following the confirmation of 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Iowa, including cases of community spread.

The Iowa Department of Public Health's COVID-19 information page contains daily updates that can be viewed HERE.

Gov. Reynolds issued a State of Public Health Disaster Emergency Proclamation activating the public health response and recovery aspects of the State Disaster Emergency Plan effective at noon on March 17, 2020. Full text of the proclamation is available HERE. This proclamation has been modified.  The full text of that proclamation is available HERE.

In response to the emergency proclamation, the Iowa Department of Transportation has taken the following actions effective March 18, 2020, until the declared disaster has ended. Full details are available on the IDOT website.

PREVENTION:

Though COVID-19 is a relatively new illness, the preventative measures and precautions remain very similar to that of the flu:

  • Make a plan and discuss it with your family. What would you do if you could not go to work or school because of illness? What if your daycare provider was ill? How would you get groceries if you were ill? These are all questions to think about.
  • Being uncertain and anxious about COVID-19 is normal, especially with reports of illness and death.
  • It is important to understand the risk of influenza is much higher than the risk of COVID-19 in Iowa right now.
  • Prevention of COVID-19 is the same as that for other respiratory illnesses (like flu):
    • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your upper arm/elbow
    • Clean your hands frequently with soap and water
    • Contain germs by staying home when ill
