During his tenure, he served as the Governor’s Authorized Representative for eleven president-declared major disasters, including the 2008 flooding disaster that was the largest disaster to occur in the state of Iowa &, at that time, was the fifth largest disaster in the United States. Total federal dollars obligated topped $1.2 billion & included more than $350 million in hazard mitigation funding. Under Mr. Miller’s leadership, Iowa was one of only twelve states to achieve national accreditation under the Emergency Management Accreditation Program, allowing for increased funding under FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
